Marion Bartoli has insisted that she can make the Wimbledon Final again this year – if she manages to avoid the Williams sisters.
The young French star raised many eyebrows in 2007, when she played superb Tennis to reach the Wimbledon Final, only to lose to Venus Williams.
Despite a largely quiet spell on the Grand Slam front since, the 24-year old believes that she has the game to make the final once again at Wimbledon in 2009, however she is keen to swerve a tie against either of the powerful Williams sisters:
“I think the women’s draw at Wimbledon is really open this year and if I can avoid the Williams sisters I have a chance of making the final again, said Bartoli. “I’ve worked a lot on my fitness and it is paying off now. When I had tough points last year I was struggling to recover but now I am ready for the next point.’’
Bartoli is not amongst the favourites for this year’s Wimbledon Championships, and many regard her run to the final two year’s ago as a lucky streak. She is 64/1 with Betfair to go one better than 2007, although it is likely that she will have to overcome at least one of the Williams sisters to do so.
