Djokovic Declares His Exhaustion

Wimbledon Live Staff - 15 Jun 2009

World No.4 Novak Djokovic has confessed that he is ‘exhausted’ with only a week to go before the start of Wimbledon 2009.

The Serb ace has lost four finals this year, something which has taken a clear mental and physical effect on him. His latest defeat came in the recent Gerry Weber Open in Halle, a Wimbledon warm-up event, in which he lost to 31-year old Tommy Haas. Djokovic spoke of his disappoint after his defeat to Haas, declaring:

‘I didn’t play well at all. I was lucky to win a set I didn’t pressure him and I didn’t serve well’. The Serb went on to say how exhausted he feels following his exploits on the tour so far this year, and he put a lot of the blame on his defeat to Rafael Nadal in the Madrid Masters, a match which took over four hours to complete. ‘That loss exhausted me mentally. I am still trying to recover.’

Novak Djokovic has drifted out to 16/1 with Sportingbet for Wimbledon this year. Whilst his talents and ability remain unquestionably good, many are speculating that he simply does not have the strength or stamina to go all the way in a Grand Slam this year.
