Legend Sampras Backs Fed for SW19

Fourteen times Grand Slam winner Pete Sampras has given Swiss ace Roger Federer his vote ahead of this year's Wimbledon Championship.

By the end of this year's Wimbledon, Roger Federer could level Sampras's record of fourteen slam wins, and he could even beat it should he be successful at both Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Sampras, who's reign on the grass was effectively ended by Federer in an epic fourth round match in 2001, believes that Federer can reclaim his title from rival Rafael Nadal in 2009.

'It's going to be tough for Nadal to reclaim his title' said Sampras. 'There's pressure on him this year which he hasn't had before, there is less pressure on Federer as he is not the champ. I think Federer will win this year, but it's not a shoe-in.'

Roger Federer is now a clear 11/8 favourite (Hills) to win his sixth Wimbledon title. A combination of his excellent form at the French Open, and Nadal's niggling injury problems have put him at the head of affairs in the market, as he aims to reclaim his spot at the top of the world rankings.
