Andy Murray has now stated that he has his eyes on the Wimbledon crown, following his excellent triumph at the AEGON Classic at Queen’s Club.
World No.3 Murray produced some fine Tennis to beat American James Blake 7-5 6-4, and claim his first career title on grass. Throughout the Wimbledon warm-up at Queen’s, Murray was extremely dismissive and at times uninterested when asked about his Wimbledon chances. He insisted that he was purely focusing on the tournament at Queen’s.
However following his success, he has now declared that his focus is fully on SW19, and he believes that he does have a chance. Murray said:
‘It’s not impossible for me to win (Wimbledon), and if I go into every match with the same thoughts then yes I can win it. I am playing my best Tennis at the moment and I feel great. But I will have to play the best Tennis of my life if I am to win Wimbledon. It won’t be easy’.
Murray has received heavy support, not only in the betting markets for Wimbledon, but off the likes of former players Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski, who have stated that they think he can win the title in 2009. From a betting perspective, Murray’s outstanding form has made him as short as 5/2 with some firms to win Wimbledon, his lowest ever SP for a Grand Slam. The Brit is still available at 3/1 with Paddy Power, however those odds may shorten further should Rafael Nadal not participate, something which would further open Murray’s path to the Wimbledon final.
