Murray faces Kendrick in First Round at Wimbledon

Wimbledon Live Staff - 19 Jun 2009

Andy Murray has been drawn to face Robert Kendrick in the first round at Wimbledon.

World No.3 Murray will begin his quest to win his first Grand Slam title against the American ranked No.76 in the world, and the Brit has beaten Kendrick on three previous occasions, including on grass. He will be a heavy favourite to do so again when the Championships begin on June 22, and get his campaign off to a flying start.

The whole draw has worked out rather well for Murray – he will be in the same half as injury plagued defending champion Rafael Nadal, meaning that he will avoid Roger Federer until the final, should he get there. Dangerous players such as ATP Halle winner Tommy Haas, and the ever improving Jo Wilifried Tsongo have also been avoided.

Murray has declared himself that he is ‘in the form of his life’, after his excellent Roland Garros run and Queen’s Club victory, and the man from Glasgow has been tipped to win the title at SW19 this year by many experts in the game, most notably Bjorn Borg. Murray is currently the 16/5 second favourite for Wimbledon with Betfair, with Roger Federer heading the market at 17/16.
