Rafael Nadal has announced that he will travel to London at the end of the week as he continues his battle to be fit to defend his Wimbledon title.
Nadal, who was surprising beaten in the fourth round of the French Open, had to pull out of the AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club, the traditional Wimbledon warm up, due to a flare up of a knee injury, which has been a recurring problem for him. The Spaniard, who beat five times winner Roger Federer in the final last year, has stated that he will give his all to make sure he is fit to participate in the tournament which he loves the most.
‘‘I’m going to give 200 per cent to make sure I’m 100 per cent so I can play in the most important place in the world and the tournament that gives me the most excitement’ said Nadal.
The World No.1 did however stress that he would not be taking to court unless he was completely fit, saying ‘'I won’t be going on any court, let alone Centre Court at Wimbledon, unless I’m 100 per cent fit.’
Nadal’s intense training regimes and hi-octane style of play are believed to be the key reasons behind his knee problems. Should the champion be fit to start the Championships at SW19 on June 22, he will be a best priced 10/3 with Bet 365 to reclaim his Wimbledon crown.
