Mardy Fish will be aiming for his first career Grand Slam semifinal as the top ranked American faces Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon quarters.
Rafael Nadal, who had injury concerns regarding his ankle in recent days, is apparently unbothered as he heads into his Wimbledon 2011 quarterfinal match.
Nadal, a winner of 18 straight matches at the All England Club, will not need to play his absolute best to see himself through to the semifinals of Wimbledon 2011 on Wednesday as the Spaniard faces Mardy Fish. However Nadal will definitely need to be sharp as the number 10 seed is playing quite well.
Fish dismissed Tomas Berdych in Wimbledon's fourth round as the runner-up from last year fell in straight sets. The American, the top player for his country, is enjoying his career best Wimbledon and in fact his quarterfinal appearance at the All England Club matches his best Grand Slam performances from the 2007 Australian Open and the 2008 US Open.
Fish has never won a quarterfinal match in a major however and he's never beaten Nadal in any event. The world number one is 5-0 against Fish a record that includes two wins on grass. Nadal beat Fish in the first round of Wimbledon 2007 and in the round of 32 at London's Queen's Club in 2006.
Both matches ended in straight sets with Fish having only won one individual set against Nadal in their five matches total (2008 US Open).
Nadal and Fish will meet in the second match of the day on Court No. 1 following the currently playing match between Novak Djokovic and Bernard Tomic. It would be surprising if Nadal did not win, a result that could set up an Andy Murray vs Rafael Nadal semifinal for the second straight year.
