Robson Gets Her Chance

Laura Robson will become the youngest Brit to participate at Wimbledon this year after being awarded a wildcard by the All England Club.

The World Junior No.1 became extremely popular at last year at SW19 following her title triumph in the Girls Singles. Aussie-born left-hander Robson will be a tender 15 years and 152 days old when she takes to court on June 22, which will also make her the twelfth youngest woman to play in the Grasscourt Slam.

Robson, who was eliminated in round two of the girls singles at Roland Garros last week commented: ‘It sounds like there will be quite a lot of pressure and lots of people watching, so I am just going to have to get on with it.’

The young Brit is ranked No.485 in the world, and the All England Club lifted a clause (whereby only the worlds top 250 can be selected for wildcards) to allow her the opportunity to compete at the most famous Tennis tournament of all. The draw for Wimbledon takes place next week, and Laura Robson is a best priced 300/1 with Betfred to go all the way, although winning her opening round will probably be her realistic target for this year.
