Venus Williams will start week two here at Wimbledon with a second round clash against Tsvetana PironkovaYou can watch and bet on the action from Wimbledon at bet365Venus Williams will get the chance to avenge last year’s quarter-final loss on Monday, as she’s set to face world No. 33 Tsvetana Pironkova in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2011. The five-time champion has been made to work hard in some of her matches here, but following her 6-0, 6-2 dismissal of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, is clearly still capable of
producing championship-winning form.
Pironkova caused one of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far in round three, beating second seed Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-3. The Bulgarian has struggled this season, but has had no trouble finding her form on grass. Last season’s Wimbledon exploits are beginning to seem a lot less like a one-off, and it’s possible that Williams will be in for a very tough match on Monday.
Pironkova currently holds a 2-1 head to head record against Williams, and it looks like the former world No. 1 will need to work hard to level this. The American is regarded to be the favourite, but can expect a real challenge. This matchup could well prove to be one of the most memorable showdowns at Wimbledon this year.
