Roger Federer will have to wait longer for a seventh Wimbledon title, with the Swiss being beaten 3-2 by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter finals on Wednesday.

Tsonga looked nervous in the opening stages and dropped his serve in the opening game of the match, although that was the only occasion it was to happen. After Federer claimed the first set, the second set went to a tie break and the six-time champion took a seemingly unassailable 2-0 lead.

However, Tsonga managed to break Federer early in the third set and his confidence levels increased as the popular player managed to keep Roger at bay to haul himself back into the match.

The same thing happened in the fourth set and Tsonga’s serving was starting to click into action with Federer unable to get out of third gear. Once Tsonga broke early in the fifth set, Federer could not produce any answers and the Frenchman goes through to a semi-final against Novak Djokovic.
