Wimbledon Women's Singles: Betting Update

Wimbledon Live Staff - 20 Jun 2009

The market for the Women's Singles Championship at Wimbledon has stayed relatively the same - with Serena Williams still the favourite at 5/2 with BlueSQ.

Sister and reigning champion Venus Williams is challenging for favouritism in some markets however she is still a best priced 10/3 clear scond favourite with Bet 365. Much like the Men's Championship, the betting reflects that a two horse race is expected, with third best Maria Sharapova on the drift at 9/1, also with Bet 365.

The big positive in the market is recent French Open Champion and fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova. The Russian was available at 20/1 not long ago but she has now been backed into 14/1 with BlueSQ. Victor Chandler are the only firm not to follow suit however and they still go 18/1 about Kuznetsova netting a quickfire Grand Slam double.

Elsewhere, and remarkably, the sixth seed Jelena Jankovic is friendless in the market, and she is a huge 54/1 and drifting with Betfair. Betfair are also showing 94/1 about Amelie Mauresmo, the champion of three year's ago.
